Traditional model (Germany)
German Christmas star (Fröbelstern)
The video is hosted on YouTube: it only loads when you press Play.
Here is a traditional German fold (for a change!) called Fröbelstern. It is a Christmas star folded from strips of paper. To fold it, you will need 4 strips of paper 1 cm wide and at least 25 cm long. In fact, when I saw this model, I wondered whether I could make it with the pre-cut strips sold for Chinese lucky stars… and yes, the test was conclusive! It can be done, but the strips could not have been any shorter! If you cut your own strips, make them a little longer if you can: it will be easier to form the raised points of the star (for example, you can cut 1 cm strips along the length of an A4 sheet, which gives strips 29.7 cm long). Then all you need to do is thread a string through them to hang them on your tree, or set them on your festive tables. And for the most patient among you, you can join 8 of them together to make a lovely wreath.
