Model by Yoshihide Momotani

Here is a figure of the Emperor of Japan in his traditional kimono. This model, which I love, is an origami by the Japanese master Yoshihide Momotani. It goes with the empress to form the imperial couple. In fact, this origami refers to the Japanese festival called Hina matsuri, literally "doll festival". It is celebrated on 3 March and is dedicated to little girls. On the eve of the festival, small dolls are set out on a tiered stand, with the imperial couple on the top level. Other figures and objects fill the three other tiers, but you can also settle for a simpler set with just the imperial couple, and make them in origami instead of dolls. This fold looks its best in beautiful paper with colourful patterns, using a square sheet of at least 15 cm.
