Surprise card
The video is hosted on YouTube: it only loads when you press Play.
For birthdays or other celebrations, I like giving origami cards, especially ones that open cleverly when you pull on them. This one was designed by Didier Boursin, and it is one of my favourites because it closes again quite easily, which will (perhaps) spare you from hearing "It's pretty! But… how do you close it???"
Once open, it forms a kind of box in the middle where you can write your message, or even put a little surprise such as a photo, a flat object, sand, glitter… Here it is made with a 10.5 × 29.7 cm rectangle (an A4 sheet cut in half lengthwise), but you can also use a shorter rectangle to get a card of a different shape. Preferably fold it in paper that holds its shape well, such as kraft paper.
