Traditional model (China)
Modular lotus flower
The video is hosted on YouTube: it only loads when you press Play.
After the lotus bud, I am presenting here the modular lotus flower, meaning that it is made from several sheets, 27 to be exact, all folded the same way. It is a traditional Chinese origami, originally folded from hell bank notes. These fake banknotes are burned by the Chinese at funerals or at ceremonies honouring their ancestors. I managed to get some from a well-known online auction site, but you can also look for a picture of a banknote on the web and print it, or fold the origami from ordinary sheets (17 x 9 cm) for a more understated look. Although this origami may look complicated, it is mostly just long. But it will make a superb decoration for your home, as a table centrepiece for example. One last tip, with apologies to the purists: I recommend gluing the petals to strengthen the model.
