Traditional model (Japan)

Crane

The video is hosted on YouTube: it only loads when you press Play.

The crane (orizuru, 折鶴) is probably the best-known traditional origami model in Japan. It is a bit like our French paper chicken (cocotte) or paper boat. So we could not start this origami site without showing it to you! It is a simple and elegant model that you can fold in plain or patterned paper to make greeting cards, garlands, or even a senbazuru if you are feeling motivated! Once you have mastered this model, you can also try your hand at the models of the Hiden Senbazuru Orikata. And now, follow the video step by step to make it… on your marks, get set, fold!
